The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has appointed Peter Bushby as its new president.
He takes the reins from outgoing president Pamela Bennett, who now resumes her position as a fellow of the Real Estate Institute of Queensland.
Mr Bushby has worked in the real estate sector since 1972 and is a former national board member of the First National Real Estate group. He also played a key role in the development of Professionals in Tasmania, as well as holding a position as a Tasmanian Property Agents Tribunal panel member.
Morgan Shearer from the Northern Territory continues in his role as REIA vice president.
Earlier this week, Mr Bushby stated the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) was right to cut the base rate of interest this month, citing figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showing growth in both property refinancing and new commitments so far in December.
He said: "These housing finance data figures indicate that the RBA's rate reduction in December was justified."
