Australian visa changes 'could fuel British demand'

An increasing number of Brits could attempt to buy homes in Australia following changes to the visa regulations.

More Britons could attempt to purchase property in Australia following changes to the visa regulation that make it easier for them to move the country, an expert has claimed.

Marc Da Silva, freelance property journalist and founder of PropertyJournalist.com, suggested that the Australian government is looking to reduce the pass mark for an emigration visa, streamlining the process for those considering making the move down under.

"That could potentially fuel demand for Brits, amongst other internationals, to move to Australia. They are opening the doors," said Mr Da Silva.

He added that the possibility of the pound improving against the Australian dollar could also fuel demand from foreign investors, with Australia a permanently popular destination among English buyers because of its Anglophone status.

Guy Debelle, the assistant governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, recently suggested he remains confident about the health of the country's property market over the coming months.
