Property Renovation has always been popular, and recent statistics show that people are spending more and doing better renovations.

The benefits of adding floor area to their living space were undimmed for homeowners around Australia throughout 2005, as figures show that the value of council-approved alterations and additions - primarily ground floor and second storey extensions - barely fell over the past year.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that a total of 10,375 Australian households undertook major home renovations in the September 2005 quarter at an average cost of $76,856. The most popular major renovation during that period was a ground floor extension, at an average cost of $112,490, followed by upper floor extensions, kitchens, and bathrooms.

A typical kitchen renovation cost $22,650 and the average bathroom job cost $23,304. The average cost of an upper storey extension was $123,244.
