WA adds to migrant skill list.

Carpenters, electricians and fitters now feature on the list of skilled migrants sought in Western Australia.

The list of occupations sought in Western Australia (WA) has been extended to include carpenters, electricians and fitters.

This follows a review of the WA Skilled Migration Occupation List.

People employed in these professions and hoping to move to property in Australia are being invited to apply for state sponsorship through Skilled Migration WA.

The codes for the professions are as follows: carpenter 331212, electrician 341111 and fitter 323211.

Skilled Migration WA reviews the availability of occupations each month and, if an occupation becomes available, people are able to apply for sponsorship on the first day of the following month.

Last month, the government of South Australia (SA) drew up a state migration plan, which was then signed by federal minister for immigration and citizenship Chris Bowen and SA minister for industry and trade Tom Koutsantonis.

Mr Koutsantonis said that the occupations listed were required in order for the "state to build a prosperous economy".
