The number of people that visited Australia on a short-term basis in November 2010 totalled 504,800, in seasonally adjusted terms, new figures have shown.

This is 1.1 per cent higher than the number that visited in October of last year, the Australian Bureau of Statistics report shows.

In trend terms, 508,000 people visited the country in November, which is just 0.5 per cent more than headed to the country in the previous month but 5.8 per cent more than visited in November 2009.

As for the number of residents who left the country and their Australian property on a short-term basis in November, this reached 602,400 in trend terms.

This is 0.1 per cent less than left in October but 9.3 per cent more than headed abroad in November of the previous year.

Earlier this month, another report from the bureau revealed that room occupancy rates at Australian tourist accommodation increased in the September quarter of 2010, which suggests that more people were visiting the country.
