Fewer people visited Australia in October than did in September, new statistics have revealed.
The figures, published today (December 6th) by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), showed that 498,300 people visited the country on a short-term basis in the tenth month of the year.
This is a decrease of 2.3 per cent from the 510,000 that visited the country in September.
It follows monthly increases of 3.6 per cent from July to August and 1.4 per cent from August to September.
The ABS was just 200 out when it estimated that 493,500 short-term visitors would arrive in Australia in October.
In terms of Australian residents leaving the country for short-term visits to other countries, this figure also decreased, from 606,600 in September to 598,400 in October.
Last month, the ABS published a report which revealed that short-term visitor arrivals to Australia had increased by 7.7 per cent from September 2009 to the same month of this year.
