Tasmanian govt invests in north-west jobs

More jobs are to be created in the north-west of Tasmania thanks to investment by the Australian state's government.

The Tasmanian government has invested in the creation of jobs in the north-west of the Australian state.

Economic development minister Lara Giddings said that a wide range of measures had been implemented by the government to boost employment following business closures in the area.

Ms Giddings said that recent data has shown that the employment situation in the area is improving.

She went on to say that the government is taking "positive action on a range of fronts" to improve this further.

"For example, three initiatives under a $20 million (£12.3 million) joint Australian and state government assistance package for north-west and northern Tasmania are delivering more than 650 jobs."

She added that a further 217 jobs have been created through the Regional Assistance Program - Tasmania.

Earlier this month, Australia's minister for immigration and citizenship Chris Bowen launched a new points test for allowing suitable skilled migrants to gain employment in Australia.
