Taller apartment blocks suggested in Sydney

A Canadian property expert says that Sydney should look to Toronto for inspiration.
<div $$hash="6256-0"><p $$hash="6258-0">To make housing more affordable, it has been suggested that taller apartment blocks should be built in Sydney.

 

 

<p $$hash="6262-0">Chief executive officer for the Retail Property Association of Canada, Michael Brooks, compared Sydney to Toronto in that it has a high population that is expected to have grown from six million to 11.5 million by 2031.

 

 

<p $$hash="6264-0">At the UrbanGrowth NSW Conference, he said that issues with affordability of housing in Toronto were addressed by building taller apartment blocks. This also helped to stop urban sprawl.

 

 

<p $$hash="6266-0">Sydney is known to have particularly high house prices, although property sales have been shown to be high. Particularly with the recent clearance weekend auctions.

 

 

<p $$hash="6268-0">Currently, there are plans to build a tower with over 60 levels of apartments in the city. At 240 metres, it will be the tallest apartment block in the city.

 

 

<p $$hash="6270-0">The Meriton Apartments is the tallest residential tower at the moment, at 230 metres.
