Kevin Rudd has praised businesses for taking steps to boost indigenous employment.
The prime minister said progress is being made in closing the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous jobless figures, the Australian Associated Press reported.
Speaking at a gathering of business leaders in Canberra, he commented: "We are making a difference because you are making a difference."
Mr Rudd's government has pledged to halve the gap between indigenous and non-indigenous employment within a decade - equivalent to 100,000 indigenous people finding and keeping a job.
He has also promised to halve gaps in education and infant mortality.
Earlier this month, the prime minister highlighted the progress being made in the indigenous housing construction initiative, pointing out that Australian homes are being constructed under the Strategic Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Program.
Early difficulties have been overcome, he told parliament, with dozens of new Australian houses being built and many more refurbished.
