Report proposes reforms to QLD's development system

Reforms to Queensland's development assessment system, which could increase the confidence of Australian property investors, have been suggested in a new report.

A new report has identified reforms to Queensland's (QLD's) development assessment system that could rebuild the confidence of Australian property investors.

The report was compiled by specialist consultancy firm Urbis on the behalf of the Property Council of Australia.

Queensland executive director of the council Kathy Mac Dermott said the report identifies aspects of the current system that block development.

It claims that there is a lack of integration between policies in the state, as well as a lack of responsiveness and flexibility on behalf of the government.

Ms Mac Dermott said the report also highlights solutions to these problems gained from best practice examples around the world.

"The research confirms that we must streamline the development assessment decision-making process in Queensland if we want to lose our tag as the nation's laggards," she added.

Last month, a new National Construction Code was introduced, reducing the red tape faced by those building property in Australia.
