REIA honours top architects

Companies involved in the Australian property market have been honoured at the 2011 Real Estate Institute of Australia National Awards for Excellence.

The top achievers in Australian property have been honoured at the 2011 Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) National Awards for Excellence.

Held at the Marriott Resort & Spa in Surfers Paradise, Queensland, the event featured performances by Australian rock band The Accidents and magician Matt Hollywood.

"Everyone who attended last night is a winner in their own right because they have already won at their state and territory to be honoured at the national level," said David Airey, president of the REIA.

On the night, a total of 16 awards were handed out, including the President's Award, which went to Ian James McDonald, from Victoria.

The Large Residential Agency of the Year award went to Peter Blackshaw Real Estate Manuka in the Australian Capital Territory, and the Medium Residential Agency of the Year title went to First National Real Estate Nerang, of Queensland.

Last month, Mr Airey suggested that the government and industry professionals need to work together to find ways of increasing the level of home ownership in Australia.
