Prospective migrants urged to act quickly

Those looking to migrate to Australia should not wait around, as they could find their circumstances change and they are no longer eligible, one expert has claimed.

People who are keen to migrate to Australia should take the plunge and do so now, in case their circumstances change.

This is according to Grant King, director of the Migration Bureau, who said that people should first make sure they have done their research and visited Australia and then apply for a visa.

"Go for it and secure your visa, because it may be if you procrastinate and wait a year, you may have a birthday that makes you no longer eligible," he said.

Mr King went on to say that, if people delay their application, they could also find that their job has come off the occupation list.

He explained that there are 170,000 places for emigration to Australia this year, which may seem like a lot, but the system is over subscribed.

Last month, the list of occupations sought in Western Australia was extended to include carpenters, electricians and fitters.
