As the summer reaches its peak tenants across Australia are set to request ceiling fans from their landlords, although spending less on a fan that is not pre-wired could turn out to be a false economy, according to Master Electricians Australia.
The company's chief executive Malcolm Richards has issued a warning over purchasing low-cost ventilation systems, saying that the money saved by opting for a cheaper fan is often cancelled out by increased installation and repair costs.
Many cheaper fans do not come pre-wired, meaning an electrical contractor will need to be called in order to wire it up.
While this may only take ten minutes, the cost can be surprisingly high and eliminate the initial savings.
Australian homes rely on fans and other air conditioning systems in order to make the hot summer more bearable, although Mr Richards warns that installing lower-quality equipment can in fact be an expensive mistake, as many products do meet safety or quality standards.
