Popularity of Queensland property 'will improve'

Given two years, the popularity of Australian property in the flood hit areas of Queensland will recover, KPMG partner Bernard Salt has claimed.

The popularity of property in the flood-affected areas of Queensland will recover in time, one commentator has suggested.

KPMG partner Bernard Salt wrote in a piece for the Australian newspaper that, in the short term, the population of the flood-damaged areas will decrease by around ten per cent, but this will recover within two or three years.

He went on to say that people, not just Australians, are "remarkably resilient" and recover from natural disasters such as the floods relatively quickly.

"Local communities, town planners and businesses should plan on a two or three-year schedule for full demographic recovery from the disasters in Queensland over the past month," Mr Salt advised.

He also said that, for the time being, there is likely to be a high demand for those working in certain skilled professions, such as plumbers, carpenters, electricians and plasterers.

Earlier this month, the Western Australia Skilled Migration Occupation List was extended to include carpenters, electricians and fitters.
