Perth CBD development wins award

An award has been bestowed on a renovation project in Perth.

The Property Council of Australia has revealed the William Street Precinct redevelopment in the Perth central business district has been recognised at the UNESCO Asia Pacific cultural heritage conservation awards.

It was named as one of eight projects across the region to have demonstrated significant improvements for local residents in the past year.

The project saw the renovation of 11 buildings to restore them to their previous grandeur, including the recreation of 19th century facades and the upgrade of several public spaces.

UNESCO judges stated the redevelopment has been a great success, highlighting the efforts of local authorities, architects, financiers and the state government.

It was carried out as part of a public-private partnership led by the Western Australia government.

Elsewhere, plans for the creation of a number of new homes in Perth were recently announced by development partners Leighton Properties and Mirvac as part of the Perth City Link project.
