MBA criticises union stance

Master Builders Australia has criticised industrial disputes from construction unions.

Master Builders Australia (MBA) has criticised the stance taken by construction unions and claimed they are flouting the regulations set up by the Fair Work Act.

Chief executive officer Wilheim Harnisch said the Fair Work Building and Construction executive must take action against those who walk off site, claiming they have a negative effect on the Australian property industry.

"Why should communities and builders have to suffer delays caused by industrial action because the union is unhappy with Commonwealth Government Policy?," he queried.

The union actions are taking place in Perth in protest over new government legislation workers claim will damage the construction code of practice.

Mr Harnisch described industrial action as "a slippery slope" that will lead to worse conditions across the sector and damage economic growth.

The MBA recently welcomed a move from the Fair Work Ombudsman to stamp out phoenixing in the industry, describing the practice as a form of fraud.
