Master Builders hails new construction research centre

Master Builders Australia has welcomed the launch of the new Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living.

Leaders at Master Builders Australia (MBA) have welcomed the launch of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Low Carbon Living, which will focus on how the construction sector can cut down on harmful emissions.

Based at the University of New South Wales, the scheme will bring together specialists in planning, property management and house building, who can share ideas on how to make the industry more eco-friendly.

"The building and construction industry continues to innovate new ways to reduce its carbon footprint, working with research institutions. The new CRC for Low Carbon Living will further advance these innovations," commented MBA chief executive Wilhelm Harnisch.

He said the initiative compliments the MBA's Green Living programme and its Liveability partnership with a number of high-profile building industry bodies.

Clearly, the Australian property sector has been struggling of late and the organisation suggested the October 2012 Housing Finance figures recently released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics highlight the "soft conditions" experienced in the residential building industry.
