Industry bodies 'can help Victorian economy'

A number of industry bodies in Victoria have expressed their desire to help the economy recover.

A number of business groups from the Australian property industry and other sectors of the economy have expressed their desire to help the government deal with its current economic difficulties.

The government has not engaged with any industry groups ahead of its budgetary release in May, leading to concerns they will be overlooked when policy is being decided.

Talking to the Saturday Age, a number of business chiefs claimed they are willing to help the government decide upon a policy which will help boost economic recovery.

'The lack of infrastructure projects is very concerning and I'm very concerned that we are losing skills out of the state to [resource-rich states] and overseas," said Property Council Victoria executive director Jennifer Cunich.

Australian Industry Group Victorian director Tim Piper explained that his organisation would be making its views clear despite not having been formally requested to do so by the government.

The Housing Industry Association recently noted that poor house sales in Victoria contributed to dragging down the national average over the first quarter of 2012.
