Heating amendments for NSW homeowners

Property owners in NSW are to be able to decide how best to heat their home.

Homeowners in New South Wales (NSW) are to be given a free rein in deciding how they heat their property.

Australian Property Investor reports NSW energy minister Chris Hartcher has unveiled plans to phase out a scheme introduced in December 2010 that aimed to force property owners to do away with electric hot water heating systems.

"Consumer choice should dictate water heating options and the price of the fuel, whether gas or electricity, should guide that choice, not the government," Mr Hartcher told the news provider.

He added that the move has come about due to research highlighting how up to two-thirds of properties in the state may not have access to gas heating without significant associated costs.

Earlier this month, NSW shadow minister for fair trading Tania Mihailuk stated a raft of new legislator changes are to be introduced for property owners across the state in the coming months, including plans to allow companies to take over the management and ownership of developments.
