There will be a growing number of single-person Australian properties on the market, it has been suggested.
There will be a growing number of single-person Australian properties on the market, it has been suggested.

Tanya Plibersek, federal housing minister, told The Australian that this is a rapidly-expanding demographic and that it is important the housing market changes to reflect this.

She said that other key changes which are impacting on the housing market is the growth in the average age and the fact that people are often residing in a single property for a lot longer.

Affordability is another key issue identified by the news provider and she said that too few properties are being built.

"The measure of the housing supply gap began to emerge around 2000," Ms Plibersek claimed.

She added that state governments' zoning, infrastructure and planning policies should be consistent, as well as being both predictable and transparent.

Earlier this month, RP Data director of research Tim Lawless claimed that the Australian property market is beginning to cool off after two consecutive months of single-digit gains.
