Construction 'will return to NSW soon'

The construction of new commercial property in New South Wales will return soon, an expert has claimed

Commercial development will return to New South Wales (NSW) shortly, an industry expert has claimed.

Ian Luck, construction and engineering firm Baulderstone's new managing director, explained to the Australian newspaper that, while the industry has been quiet over the past few years, it will pick up again soon.

However, he refused to make a guess at when the construction of new commercial property would start once more.

"Ask me the same question in 12 months' time and I will give you an honest answer," he added.

Mr Luck went on to say that it was disappointing that many proposed infrastructure projects had not got off the ground.

Last month, a report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed that the construction of 45,714 residential buildings across the country commenced in the second quarter of the year.

This is a 43.4 per cent increase on the number that started in the second quarter of 2009.
