Campaign aims to attract skilled Brits to WA

Skilled workers living in the UK are to be encouraged to move to Western Australia.

A campaign is being created to encourage skilled workers living in the UK to move to Western Australia (WA).

Training and workforce development minister Peter Collier is planning to take a delegation of industry and government representatives to the UK this year to promote WA to potential skilled migrants.

"The state's economy is on the cusp of another period of sustained growth, driven by an estimated $225 billion [£145 billion] worth of resource and infrastructure projects that are either under construction, committed or under consideration," he said.

Mr Collier went on to say that the state government will try to fill jobs with local residents first, but will inevitably have to look to other states and overseas too.

Last week, people keen to migrate to Australia were advised by Grant King, director of the Migration Bureau, to take the plunge and do so now.

He warned that people who can gain a visa to the country now may not be able to so in the future if their circumstances change.
