Australia set to receive an increase in Canadian visitors

Thanks to a partnership between Tourism Australia and local industry in Canada, Australia is set to welcome an increase in the amount of visitors it sees from this part of North America.

Aims of the partnership are mainly to generate and increase interest in Air Canada's direct flights to Oz, which should see a similar uplift in the visitor numbers from one place to the other.

Since 2015, the two companies have had an expanded air services arrangement, which they signed to increase tourism across the continents.

From 1st June, Air Canada will be offering an all-year-long and non-stop service that will travel three times a week between Vancouver and Brisbane.

It's expected that this will very quickly expand to daily flights by 17th June this year, as the two companies are eager to work more closely together.

Tourism Australia, Tourism and Events Queensland and Air Canada have also partnered in order to promote Brisbane as the perfect place for a relaxed and subtropical getaway.

Billed as the gateway to Australia's Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef, this falls nicely in line with Tourism Australia's current campaign to promote the country's aquatic and coastal regions to global tourism.

Ahead of the new airline services, Tourism Australia hosted an industry update for 45 professionals in the travel sector on 12th April. At the event, guests were given themed cocktails and tried on virtual reality headsets to immerse themselves in Tourism Australia's latest aquatic and coastal campaign.

Later, on 28th April, Tourism Australia, Tourism and Events Queensland and Air Canada hosted an Australian Beach Party in Vancouver to promote the partnership to Canadian media.

Again, attendees enjoyed themed beverages and snacks, and the virtual reality headsets that have been so good at impressing potential tourists and industry professionals.

Currently, Canada is Australia's 13th largest inbound market for visitor arrivals and it ranks 12th in visitor expenditure.
