Ascot residents have highest earnings in Queensland

Residents of Ascot have the highest average earnings in Queensland.

Data compiled by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has highlighted Ascot as the area in Queensland which has the highest average earnings per capita.

ABS director of the Rural and Regional National Statistics Centre Lisa Conolly said individuals living in the suburb showed average earnings of AU$90,945 - followed by Hamilton (AU$90,900), Bulimba (AU$74,206) and Hawthorne (AU$73,928).

She noted: "Almost 38 per cent ... of Queensland's regions had average total incomes above the state average of $45,844. Of this group, 62 per cent were located within the Brisbane metropolitan area."

However, Ms Conolly added that the average earnings for those living in the state stood at AU$45,844, which is lower than the average for the nation as a whole.

Meanwhile, the ABS also revealed earlier this month as part of its latest census data that the earnings of lower and middle income households across the country rose over the last decade.
