Industrial laws would be more flexible under Tony Abbott's leadership, the federal opposition leader has stated.

Federal opposition leader Tony Abbott has pledged to bring back part of the Howard government's workplace policy if he comes to power.

He explained that industrial laws need to be more flexible, ABC News reported.

Unfair dismissal laws for small businesses would be relaxed and statutory non-union contracts would be reintroduced, Mr Abbott said.

"We want to make it possible for business to be more profitable and for workers to earn more," he commented.

The changes would affect Australian income tax and, according to Mr Abbott, do away with the risk of current laws leading to many shops limiting weekend opening hours.

Australian income tax rates for the current financial year apply to Australians earning more than AU$6,000 (£3,390) a year.

The level starts at 15c in every dollar for those in the lowest band and climbs to AU$55,850 plus 45c in each dollar for people earning more than $180,001.
