Virgin Blue is forging ahead with plans to expand flights to Hamilton Island in the coming year, after the budget carrier chalked up record passenger numbers in December.
Virgin Blue chief executive, Brett Godfrey said the move to schedule bigger planes and extra Brisbane-Hamilton Island flights over the Christmas school holidays had paid off – the extra seating taking it schedule to a double daily service with many flights still 100% booked.
“Our December figures show our confidence and investment in Hamilton Island services is very well placed,” Mr Godfrey said. “Hamilton Island is high on our agenda, we are very happy with our load factors and the support we receive from out partners in tourism and it’s great to see our high quality , lower fares approach is hitting the mark with travellers to Hamilton Island.”
Virgin Blue launched direct Brisbane-Hamilton Island flights in June last year, and this week said strong passenger demand augured well for plans to add other routes to and from the island when the company expands its fleet of aircraft later this year.
