Updated figures show that engineering construction activity carried out in Australia in the September quarter of 2010 was valued at $19.9 million (£12.4 million).
This is 1.2 per cent more than was completed in the June quarter of the year, the report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveals.
The figures also show that $12.7 million of this work was carried out for the private sector, which is 2.5 per cent greater than in the previous quarter.
However, the value of engineering construction activity completed for the public sector fell by one per cent from the June quarter to the end of the following three months.
In terms of the value of work commenced in the September quarter, this was $17.9 million, which is an increase of 9.3 per cent from the June 2010 period.
Earlier this week, Andrew Harvey, senior economist at the Housing Industry Association, said that the government needs to make radical policy changes in order to ensure that more affordable Australian property can be constructed.
