Australian property owners who live alone have spoken against the stereotyping they say they face from the likes of politicians and retailers.
A study by research firm Heartbeat Trends revealed that deals for families annoy singletons, the Courier Mail reported.
They commented that politicians and marketers were ignoring them and perpetuating unfortunate stereotypes, such as young single men being depicted as messy Australian home makers and single older women branded "crazy cat ladies".
One Australian property owner living alone told the news provider that decision-makers treat people in single dwellings as second-class citizens.
"It's more expensive as a single person living alone than it is for anybody else," said IT consultant and musician Bruno Watt.
Food is expensive and government assistance is mostly focused on families, he added.
Research by the Department of Parliamentary Services revealed that Australian home ownership rates for one-parent families and lone people are below the overall average.
