There are many reasons as to why inner-city properties in Australia are so popular, a housing expert has claimed.
Tim Lawless, director of property research at RP Data, wrote in a piece on smartcompany.com.au that one of the most obvious reasons properties in these areas are favoured is that they mean those working in the city do not have far to commute to work.
"The abundance of retail options provides a high level of convenience and residents have a vast number of social and dining options to choose from," he explained.
Mr Lawless went on to say that public transport options tend to be widely available and very efficient in city centres, making it east to get around easy.
He said that the down side of buying centrally-located houses is that they are usually quite expensive.
Last month, a report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that people who lived in the country's major cities in 2008 were three times less likely to die from transport accidents than those not living in these areas.
