Fortress Australia finally opened the borders to all international arrivals and tourists Monday the 21st February, just under 2 years from when Covid-19 forced the Morrison Government to close them to all but Citizens and Permanent Residents returning, and even those having to endure a cap limiting the number of arrivals.
It marks an end to the nightmare of exclusion for many thousands of Australians that still found themselves stuck abroad during Covid-19 and hopefully is the first step in bringing back a level of normalised travel for all of us.
Australia had a clear policy of controlling the border activity until the population was able to achieve high levels of vaccination rates and this was well achieved. Personally, I don’t think the Federal Government gets sufficient credit for managing this strategy and also the economic stability that Australia enjoyed during the last 2 years, but the upcoming Federal election will provide a good insight as to how the general population appreciated their efforts.
