Minister for the environment, heritage and the arts Peter Garrett has revealed changes to the way environmental programmes are run.
The alterations are aimed at boosting safety for Australian homeowners and safety for workers operating under the scheme.
A new Australian property Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme will replace the Home Insulation Program and the Solar Hot Water Rebate, the MP explained, and the Green Loans scheme will be changed in an effort to boost its effectiveness and sustainability.
The changes will ensure help continues for Australian property owners to contribute to a low carbon economy, put them in charge of the initiatives used in their homes and benefit good green business practices and operators, Mr Garrett said.
Under the new initiative, Australian homes can be fitted with insulation, a solar hot water system or a heat pump with the aid of up to AU$1,000 (£575) in rebates.
The Green Loans scheme has already seen more 140,000 Australian property assessments carried out, giving owners the chance to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings.
