Confidence improves across construction sector

Firms operating in Australia's construction sector are feeling more positive about the future, research conducted by Davis Langdon has suggested.

Confidence has improved across Australia's construction sector, recent research has shown.

A study conducted by international property and construction consultants Davis Langdon found that sentiment has risen by two percentage points in the last six months to reach 63 per cent.

Approximately 1,800 construction related businesses across the country were involved in the survey.

Mark Beattie, managing director at Davis Langdon, said that the construction industry is facing a "mixed outlook in terms of workload".

"However, labour force capacity constraints are not as prevalent and an encouraging proportion of industry participants reported increased levels of new business from the private sector," he added.

Of the respondents to the survey, 72 per cent predicted that the civil and resource sectors would be the best performers over the next 12 months.

Earlier this week, a report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed that $21.6 million (£13.4 million) worth of construction work was undertaken in the second quarter of the year.
