It is now recognised that one of the most cost effective means of reducing water consumption in your home is to install a water efficient showerhead in the bathroom.
This is because it has been estimated that about 30 per cent of the domestic water used indoors is consumed in the shower. It has also been estimated that the electricity used for heating this water accounts for almost 20 per cent of all the electricity consumed in a typical household.
So the use of a water efficient showerhead not only saves water but also reduces energy consumption, which in turn significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. All of these factors add up to not only protecting the environment but also saving your money.
When shopping for new water-using appliances such as showerheads, taps, dishwashers, washing machines or cisterns, look for the water conservation rating logo. This is a sticker that will indicate the water-efficiency of the product, from A to AAAAA; the more As, the more water efficient it will be.
The National Water Conservation Rating and Labelling Scheme is managed by the Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA), who list all certified products and their appropriate ratings on their website.
