Homeowners and builders alike will be affected by the new Building Regulations 2006 which take effect this month and feature important changes for the Victorian building industry.
Building Commissioner, Tony Arnel said that the new Regulations will provide an improved set of administrative provisions for building control for the next 10 years.
"We now have a set of Regulations that build upon the previous regulations and ensure that Victoria's buildings are healthy, safe, habitable and energy-efficient in a cost-effective way," Mr Arnel said.
The new and improved Regulations include matters relating to:
- standards for the construction and demolition of buildings
- the design and siting of single dwellings and associated buildings
- the maintenance of fire safety and safety measures
- requirements for swimming pool and spa safety
- the accreditation of building products, construction methods, designs, components and systems connected with building work
- qualifications and other matters relating to registration of building practitioners
- fees in respect of various matters relating to council functions, matters before the Building Appeals Board, the Building Practitioners Board and the Building Regulations Advisory Committee; and
- other matters for the purposes of the Building Act 1993.
