Australian property owners in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide can rest assured that they live in some of the best cities in the world.
The Economist Intelligence Unit's global liveability survey saw the areas come third, seventh and joint eighth respectively.
It assesses living conditions in 140 cities worldwide, taking into account indicators across categories of stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.
Each factor is rated as acceptable, tolerable, uncomfortable, undesirable or intolerable, with the Australian cities all scoring above 95 out of a possible 100.
The desirability of Australian homes in Perth is also seen in recent figures from the Real Estate Institute of Western Australia.
Its statistics revealed that the median price of a house in the city reached AU$480,000 (£266,000) at the end of 2009, up 14.3 per cent since the start of the year.
This figure also beat the previous highest price for properties in Perth, which was set in December 2007.
