The level of net overseas migration by Australians has reached its highest point in two years, figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) have revealed.
According to the organisation's findings, an 18 per cent annual rise in the number of migrations took place in the year to the end of March 2012.
In total, 197,200 people moved abroad during the 12-month period, up from 166,800 during the same time in 2011 - this period represented a four-year low for overseas migration.
Meanwhile, the figures also revealed a 1.2 per cent increase in the number of births recorded to the end of March this year.
Net migration represented 57 per cent of national population growth, with 43 per cent coming from new births.
Last month, the ABS revealed that the highest proportion of expats heading into Australia continue to arrive from Great Britain.
Its data showed more than six million expats currently reside in Australia, one million of whom were born in the UK.
