Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) have revealed more people across Australia are embracing the great outdoors and taking jobs in the adventure sector.
ABS director of culture, recreation and migrant statistics Andrew Middleton noted that the number of Aussies working in the outdoor pursuits sector has risen by 66 per cent between 2006 and 2011, making the sector one of the major growth areas of recent years.
He commented: "The results showed that 95,590 people listed their main job as being in a sport and physical recreation occupation, the majority being male (58 per cent)."
Mr Middleton added that in total, 1,382 outdoor adventure instructors were working across the country in 2011.
The news follows the recent publication of figures from the ABS highlighting the growing popularity of outdoor pursuits including soccer and swimming for young Aussies.
It showed that children aged between nine and 11 are the most active, with two-thirds participating in at least one organised sport.
