MBA hopes for Kickstart boost

Kickstart's relaunch has been welcomed by MBA.

Master Builders Australia (MBA) has welcomed the relaunch of the government's Kickstart initiative, which will help to deliver new training opportunities for the Australian property construction sector in the coming years.

MBA chief executive Wilhelm Harnisch said that after the success of the programme in 2009/10, its return is set to provide a welcome boost to the industry, as the scheme looks to safeguard the important skills required in the sector for years to come.

He commented: "Kickstart is a timely and welcome federal government incentive to help the building and construction industry continue to train the large number of building trade professionals required over the next decade."

Mr Harnisch also recently called on the Reserve Bank of Australia to cut rates further in a bid to boost the housing sector recovery that has floundered somewhat over recent months.

He claimed the picture for the industry at present is one of "sluggish recovery".
