Rules regulating the purchasing of property and real estate in Western Australia, set to be implemented on January 1st, are a "recipe for disaster" according to a statement released today (November 23rd) by the Housing Industry Association (HIA).
The new regulations, finalised earlier in the year, are intended to reform the process through which builders and building organisations receive planning permission and create a new, more streamlined, complaints process.
But John Dastik, executive director of the HIA's Western Australian operation, warns that insufficient planning and liaison with the industry could scupper the government's scheme.
The failure to provide enough details, he said, would impact negatively upon "the industry and local government's ability to update operating systems and provide detailed training regarding the new requirements".
A trade report from the HIA published last week (November 18th) found evidence of continued weakness in new home building and called for governmental stimulus to encourage the property market.
