The Housing Industry Association (HIA) believes the number of building developments receiving the green light from planning chiefs in Western Australia (WA) will increase by 23 per cent during the 2012/13 financial year.
According to company representative John Dastlik, there was a significant drop in construction activity earlier in the year because of the introduction of the new Building Act, but he told ABC News that these issues have now been rectified.
Although there was a noticeable slump in the June quarter of 2012, there has been a surge in dwelling approvals in recent months.
He also stated that WA is leading the nation in terms of house building activity.
"The initial signs for an improvement in the number of building starts in the September and December quarters is certainly there," he was quoted as saying.
His comments come shortly after the Australian Bureau of Statistics announced that combined figures for the construction and purchase of new properties increased by 10.7 per cent in August when compared with the corresponding period in 2011.
