DIAC launches electronic tourist visa for Chile and Turkey

Residents of Chile and Turkey will be able to apply for Australian tourist visas online using a new electronic application.

A new tool launched by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) will allow citizens of Chile and Turkey to apply for tourist visas over the internet.

Starting today (September 20th), the new feature means that service, special or diplomatic passport holders in Turkey can conveniently submit travel requests through the government body's website.

The e676 enables residents to apply for the tourist visa, which does not require a label to be placed in a passport, through the fast, secure and convenient service.

Clients are then able to print a copy of their notification to carry with them while travelling to the destination, which is a popular location for international tourists.

Earlier this month, the DIAC announced that the National Australia Day council chair Adam Gilchrist would celebrate the national holiday with primary school pupils in Canberra.

"The popularity of affirmation ceremonies continues to grow with more and more existing Australian citizens affirming their commitment to Australia at standalone events, as well as at citizenship ceremonies," a DIAC spokesman said.
