WA publishes state migration plan

Western Australia has revealed the professions in which it is seeking workers for its state migration plan.

Western Australia (WA) has published its state migration plan, outlining the professions in which there are shortages of skilled workers.

The occupations listed in the plan do not relate to specific job vacancies and they do not guarantee that a job will be available in these occupations.

It does, however, identify the skills that are in demand for industry sectors in WA.

The occupations on the list include aeroplane pilot, civil engineer, dentist and locksmith.

Those applying to get a visa to enter WA need to have a positive skills assessment and evidence that they can speak English to a suitable level. They will also have to possess a current curriculum vitae that demonstrates relevant work experience.

People from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada and New Zealand are not required to sit a test to prove their English language skills.

The WA government is urging people to submit their applications as soon as they can, as there is a cap on how many people the state is allowed to accept.

Last month, the Australian Visa Bureau claimed that business leaders believe that an increase in the Australian immigration numbers is essential otherwise a wages blowout will take place.
