WA migrants given opportunity to meet DIAC officer

A Department of Immigration and Citizenship outreach officer is to visit a certain part of Western Australia at the end of the month, which could interest those who have just moved to Australia in the area.

Migrants who have moved to Australia in a certain part of Western Australia are being given the opportunity to meet a visiting Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) outreach officer.

Those new to Australia and the employers of skilled migrants in Port Hedland and Karratha can meet the officer between August 30th and September 3rd to discuss any immigration issues that they might have.

A spokesman from the DIAC said that the department's regional visits programme enables people who do not live in the major metropolitan areas to talk face-to-face with an official.

"These appointments attract a range of people, from employers and small business owners to community groups, farmers and individuals, who might want specific information or just someone to talk them through a complex matter," the spokesman added.

Earlier this month, Richard Branson told the Sunday Telegraph that Australia would benefit from relaxing its immigration rules.

He said that such a large country could handle a greater population and that its economy would grow as a result.
