Australian property residents and councils in Victoria say they could be sidelined from big neighbourhood planning decisions under a "major cases" list at the planning tribunal, it has been claimed.
The list is being proposed as a way to speed up the hearing of planning applications worth more than AUS$5 million (£3 million), the Age reported.
Attorney-general Rob Hulls said 150 cases would be moved to the list immediately and cases would be settled on average within 16 weeks.
However, campaigners have warned that residents are increasingly being shut out of the planning process.
Save Our Suburbs said this proposal is an incentive for developers to bypass councils.
One major Australian property development in Victoria has been welcomed recently - the plans for the Windsor Hotel.
State premier John Brumby told the news provider that the building, which has been used by many screen and stage stars over the years, must be saved from decay.
