Support package to assist Queensland tourism

Australia's visitor figures may be given a boost with the aid of a major tourism support package which Queensland recently gained, it is believed.

The major tourism support package which was provided to Queensland could help encourage more people from overseas nations to pay a visit to Australia, it is suggested, which may include those looking to invest in Australian property.

According to Nick Sherry, the country's minister assisting on tourism, the attractions which the country offers to visitors are also due to be emphasised further during a forthcoming event which Cairns will play host to.

He stated: "The Australia-China Tourism Summit in Cairns is a great opportunity to showcase Australia to our most valuable tourism market."

Meanwhile, Senator Sherry added that the Queensland package could help the tourism sector "to attract more overseas visitors".

His remarks follow the publication of the latest Overseas Arrivals and Departures figures published by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, which relate to April 2011.

When it comes to trend estimates for short-term visitor arrivals, the figures from the bureau suggest that a total of 485,400 movements took place during the month.
