Suburban jobs initiative 'will benefit Australian property hunters'

Those seeking affordable property in Australia will benefit from the suburban jobs initiative announced in the Budget, according to the Real Estate Institute of Australia.

The suburban jobs initiative announced in the Budget will benefit those seeking affordable property in Australia, the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has claimed in its May newsletter.

This is designed to encourage the creation of jobs in outer metropolitan suburbs and it will also support regional areas in planning for a growth in housing supply in the future.

However, the REIA said that the introduction of this initiative is the "only indication that the government has considered the plight of those looking to purchase an affordable home".

The newsletter goes on to explain other property-related features of this week's Budget.

These include the decision to spread the roll-out of the National Rental Affordability Scheme over a longer period of time.

Also, the government decided not to change negative gearing and Capital Gains Tax arrangements.

Back in February, the REIA called on the government not to increase this tax on Australian property investment.
