Six occupations removed from most-wanted list

The South Australian government has revealed that it is no longer seeking civil engineers and five other occupation categories from foreign countries.

Six occupation categories have been removed from the South Australian (SA) government's list of those highly sought in the state.

A statement from the government reveals that "planning levels have been reached" for these occupations for the 2010-11 programme year and that they are no longer available for state sponsorship.

These are: civil engineer, software engineer, developer programmer, ICT business analyst, systems analyst and production or plant engineer.

"Immigration SA will not be proceeding with applications that have been submitted (including those with all essential documents)," the SA government's statement reads.

It goes on to urge those keen to move to the country to monitor its website for occupations included in the following year's programme.

There are many other occupations on the government's list that are still being sought, including aeronautical engineer, dentist, paediatrician, environmental engineer and plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

Those unsure of how to get an assessment of their qualifications are urged to visit the Australian Skills Recognition Information site for advice.
