People buying property in Australia are increasingly turning to townhouses when picking their home, according to a survey from the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ).
The REIQ September quarter median unit and townhouse report found that roughly 20 per cent of the homes bought over the period fitted into the latter category.
This supports the theory that medium-density housing is becoming popular across the country. Research from Bankwest recently ascertained that a large number of home buyers are purchasing units or townhouses rather than free-standing homes.
In Queensland people are encouraged by the balance offered by a townhouse, claims REIQ director Dan Molloy.
"They are attractive to buyers who desire a larger property, which is still affordable but is located close to the city or entertainment districts," he added.
Mr Molloy explained that this kind of housing offers a large, three-bedroom space but without the potential hassle of a garden to deal with.
