REIA applauds property report

A report calling for greater affordability has been praised by the REIA.

The Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has called for action following the publication of a new report on housing supply and affordability reform for the Australian property sector.

REIA president Pamela Bennett said placing affordability at the top of the agenda is a positive step for the industry and will see the tackling of inefficiencies in both the development and land rezoning stages of new projects.

"Translating the findings of the report into action and making housing affordability a reality for all Australians should be the goal," commented Ms Bennett.

She added that the gap between housing supply and demand highlighting how fundamental issues concerning the development of new properties remain to be addressed.

Last month, the Housing Industry Association also echoed the sentiments of the REIA in welcoming the report and claimed its publication will help to spark further debate as to how more Australians can be encouraged to buy property.
