The installation of rainwater tanks to boost the sustainability of Australian property is proving extremely popular in Victoria, new data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has revealed.
A bi-annual survey carried out by the organisation has shown 707,000 homes across the state now feature these green devices - up from 600,000 in 2009.
Meanwhile, other green installations have taken place in recent years as residents of the state look to improve their energy efficiency.
Solar hot water systems are now fitted to 120,000 Victorian homes, while solar photovoltaic panels are in use by one in 19 properties.
Meanwhile, figures published by ABS for June highlighted Victoria as having one of the worst-performing property sector in terms of approvals for new dwellings.
On an annual basis, the number of approvals carried out by the state in June 2012 was 14.6 per cent lower than in the same month last year.
